Hey everyone, as you well know it's summer time and it would just be a crime to be cooped up indoors writing about bad games. Hence, I'll be on vacation for the next week but rest assured there will be an update upon my return. Anyways, I insist you stop looking at my empty words and get outside yourself....the sun really isn't that bad.

See you in a couple of weeks!

tatass_front.jpgAlmost a year after being sued by Capcom over Fighter’s History, a game they claimed directly ripped off Street Fighter II in almost every way, the geniuses at Data East decided to take another shot at the fighting game market with Tattoo Assassins. Not ones to rest on their laurels and armed with a script penned by Bob Gale, who wrote two cinematic masterpieces in Back to the Future II and III, the house that Bad Dudes built decided to take the high road this next time by ripping off the current flavor of the month: Mortal Kombat II. The end result was a game that the developers wanted to scrap halfway through development and thankfully really never saw the light of day.

Gore Galore (1995)

goregalore_front.jpgIf gaming innovation is what you crave, look no further than the independent developer. While larger game companies rarely venture off the beaten path and continue to give us the same kinds of games year in and year out, it’s the independent developers that are admired for bringing new, daring, and innovative ideas to the table. Look no further than games like Façade, Alien Hominid, or Crimsonland to push the envelope for innovation and offer a level of addictiveness that the folks at Blizzard could only wish to achieve. These developers rarely ask for much as their games are free, or at least affordable enough that no one would mind kicking a little bit of cash their way. It’s another thing when some kid in his parents’ basement develops an uninspired and broken knockoff running on a dated and 3D engine while attempting to drum up controversy to get his game noticed – all at the low, low price of twenty-five bucks. Sound unreal? Well, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Gore Galore.

Deadly Towers (1986)

deadly_towers_front.jpgIt’s fair to say that 1986 was a great year for the NES. The console was just starting to break sales records thanks in part to a little game called the Legend of Zelda, which was the breakout action/adventure game of the 8-bit generation. It was safe to say that Nintendo had the public hooked and the people couldn’t get enough of the virtual crack they were pushing. However, as with anything in life, with the good comes the bad. Around the same time, Brøderbund software unleashed the proverbial yang to Zelda’s Yin in a little action/adventure game called Deadly Towers. While the game attempts to be in the same vein as its epic brethren, Deadly Towers turned out to be nothing more than a low rent Zelda clone that made any attempt to play it an exhausting, as well as frustrating exercise in futility.

pacman_box.jpgOne of two games that not only helped to kill a company, but crashed an industry. Pac-Man, after a ton of hype, released to home consoles and epitomized the term "disappointing".

Great Moments in Video Game History

In the "from worse to ugly" category on the newsfront this week, Gamespot reports that Halo 2 for Windows Vista has missed its May 8th release date only to be pushed all the way back to this Thursday. The reason for the delay? It might not be what you think. Microsoft, in a rare case of fessing up to its own mistakes, gave Gamespot the following statement: "An unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of Halo 2 for Windows Vista".

Whatwhatwhat? Partial nudity? Could this be every gaming nerd's dream? Could it be that Cortana sheds her Tron-esque garment for a moment of softcore action? The result may suprise you, as it turns out the culprit ends up to be...oh wait, I can't forget a warning of some sort.

Adult content herein, Mothers lock up your children and anyone else, say a prayer for the souls for anyone about to view this:
